Granite is a type of igneous rock composed largely of quartz and feldspar. The cooling and solidification of magma creates it (molten rock that is underground). Natural stone is found in this rock, which is used to construct countertops and other surfaces.

The site area is located some 58 km west of Usakos town. Erongo Region, on the south south-western side of Klein Spitzkoppe. The site is accessible via D1918 off B2 highway towards Henties Bay and right next to the Spitzkoppe Mountain. African Granite Company (Pty) Ltd. owns two mining licences within this area namely ML50B and ML50C. The area shows intensive granite block mining activities that took place from 1998 until 2008. The local geology is comprised of granite, syenite, foyaite, rhyolite, gabbro and norite of Cretaceous age i.e. 145.5 Ma to 65.5 Ma.
